Weekly Wrap-up: August 26-31 (ARC August/Monster Review-a-thon)

WOW! August is over~ And so is ARC August. I think I did pretty okay~ So this isn’t really a week wrap-up. It’s more of my wrap-up for the whole of ARC August and also some of my posts this week. I was able to read 14 ARCs and review 9. I can’t post the others yet because they’re part of tour stops. Also, the last 3 of the 9 reviews were posted for The Book Monster’s Review-a-thon~

Ever since becoming an IWP—Individual with Powers—Marvin Maywood has dreamed of joining the Core, a group of gifted heroes who save lives and stop crimes. But because he’s a homeless teenager who is forbidden to use his amazing powers, wanting and achieving that dream are two very separate things.
But when Marvin saves a family from dangerous hoodlums with his incredible strength and speed, his chance to try out for the Core comes at last. The opportunity seems like a dream come true—until he realizes that the idyllic hero life he imagined is just a mask for the corrupt reality. What if you suddenly discovered you had a sense-and powers-that almost no one else in the world did? When Amanda Lindner Nichols, a 24-year-old graphic artist living with her husband in Queens, New York, is revived from a near-death experience, she discovers she perceives everyone around her as points of light-but not with her eyes. She soon learns she can not only perceive the life energy of others, but she can give and take it. With the help of others like her, she brings her husband Chris to the brink of death and back to bestow on him the same remarkable faculty, and they’re the happiest they’ve been. But not for long. All over the world, people who’ve been revived from their own near-death experience at just the right moment discover themselves with these same unusual powers. They find ways to use them-some for good and some for evil. When Amanda and Chris encounter a ruthless group of gangsters with the same faculty, tragedy follows-and Amanda faces the greatest challenge of her life.

Why Do I Dream of You

Why do I dream of you
When you are oceans away
Why do I dream of you
When I can ne’er see your sweet face

I have been foolish
I betrayed your trust
I chose others
I turned my back

Why do I dream of you
In such a sweet way
Why do I dream of you
Like there’s hope you’ll stay

I long for your touch
I wish for our promises
I hope for our future
I dream of your return

Why do I dream of you
When I know it’s too late
Why do I dream of you
When I can’t have you anyway

Why did I break your heart
When I will dream of you anyway

I write this for myself more than anyone else. There are just times I have to let things out and sometimes this is the only way I can do so. This is based on me. This is based on what I’m feeling from the moment I woke up and from what I’m feeling in my heart. This is based on my regrets. This is all me.

Penemuel (Pen) fell from grace over a millennium ago, yet there are still times she questions her decision to follow her twin brother, Azael, to Hell. Now that the archangel Michael has returned, threatening Lucifer’s vie for the throne, she begins questioning everything she has always believed.
As Hell prepares for war – spreading a demonic virus and pilfering innocent souls to build an army – the lines separating the worlds blur. Fates erase and the future is left unwritten. Azael is determined that he and his sister will continue to serve as demons together, but for the first time in her life, Pen is not ruled by destiny. She has the freedom of choice.
With choice comes sacrifice, and Pen must decide which side she’s willing to risk everything fighting for: the light, or the dark.

Monster Review-a-thon

Date: August 26-September 1
Goal: To review as many books as you can.
Obviously, still read, but it’s a chance to get caught up on backlogs of reviews and keep up with current ones. You have a whole week, so set your goals and get to work!
This sounds like a lot of fun, so I thought I’d join in. I mean I already plan to review a couple of books anyway so it’s a win-win situation~
My Goals: I have 9-10 books I want to review. 3-5 of them would be posted this week and the rest are for blog tours happening in September and October.
I’ll keep up reading too, of course.
