Sophie Bloom’s junior year has been a bit of a train wreck. After the world’s greatest kiss re-awakened Sophie’s true identity as Persephone (Goddess of Spring and Savior of Humanity), she fought her dragon-lady guidance counselor to the death, navigated mean girl Bethany’s bitchy troublemaking, and dealt with the betrayal of her backstabbing ex, Kai (sexy Prince of Darkness). You’d think a girl could catch a break.
Yeah, right.
With Zeus stepping things up, it’s vital that Sophie retrieve Persephone’s memories and discover the location of the ritual to stop Zeus and Hades. So when Aphrodite strikes a deal that can unlock Sophie’s pre-mortal past, what choice does the teen goddess have but to accept?
The mission: stop media mogul Hermes from turning Bethany into a global mega-celebrity. The catch? Aphrodite partners Sophie and Kai to work together … and treat this suicide mission as a date. Which could work out for Sophie’s plan to force Kai to admit his feelings for her–if she doesn’t kill him first.
Add to that the fact that BFF Theo’s love life and other BFF Hannah’s actual life are in Sophie’s hands, and suddenly being a teenager—even a godlike one—seems a bit like … well, hell. Whatever happened to dinner and a movie?
The YA romantic comedy/Greek mythology fireworks continue to fly inMy Date From Hell. Love meets comedy with a whole lot of sass in book two of this teen fantasy romance series. Breaking up is easy; dating is deadly.

This is my third Tellulah Darling book so far, and I easily fell in love with this series. The first book, My Ex from Hell, is still my favorite at the moment, but I cannot deny how good this sequel is. My Date from Hell provides a summary at the start of the book for the first book, but I still recommend that My Ex from Hell should be read before reading this one. It will be more awesome that way. Also, I will be very vague in this review because I really don’t want to spoil this for anybody.

Sophie Bloom, who previously found out that Persephone was spirited into her body, still does not have all of Persephone’s memories that are needed to save the world. This book is a quest to retrieve Sophie’s memories, undo Aphrodite’s arrow, and keep out of Zeus’ and Hades’ grasp before they kill her. Oh, and Sophie also has to deal with her hot-and-cold ex from hell, Kai. I think the emphasis should be on the hot. 😛

In this book, Sophie would be more acquainted with some other Greek gods and she will find out more about herself and everyone else. I just love the unique personalities that Tellulah Darling gave to each of the gods. I wasn’t expecting any of them, and I just kept on laughing. My favorite one would definitely be Festos! I was seriously surprised and delighted to get to know what was behind the facade he first put up when Sophie first met him. Also, I love Sophie’s account of Zeus. I think I laughed the most for that one. And who ever thought Eros could be hot? Of course we’ll still see the people we first met in the first book, and I definitely loved Sophie’s best friends, Theo and Hannah, more. And also fall more for Kai.

I don’t want to spoil anything, but for that one part near the end, I think that Sophie brought her own misfortune upon herself. That one was just frustrating! Oh, and a word of warning, this will end on a cliffhanger too. But thankfully the last installment will be coming out next month.

**************************************************

OVERALL, My Date from Hell is simply brilliant, although I still like My Ex From Hell more. This is one of those book series that I should have read sooner. Tellulah Darling’s writing is sassy, witty, and hilarious. The romance was just wonderful, especially for the new relationships formed in this one. I like how more was shown in this book. Some history will be laid out, and it can be seen how each of the characters developed. Also, there is more traveling in this book, and more characters to meet and enjoy. I am really looking forward to the last book, My Life from Hell!

RATING:

4.5-star

Don’t miss My Life From Hell, releasing March 20, 2014. Which is also spring equinox and the date of Sophie’s final showdown with Zeus and Hades in the book.

Sassy girls. Swoony boys. What could go wrong?
1. YA romantic comedy author because her first kiss sucked and she’s compensating.
2. Alter ego of former screenwriter.
3. Sassy minx.

Geeks out over: cool tech.
Squees for: great storytelling.
Delights in: fabulous conversation.
Writes about: where love meets comedy. Awkwardness ensues.

Tellulah Darling is a firm believer that some of the best stories happen when love meets comedy. Which is why she has so much fun writing young adult romantic comedy novels. Her tales span contemporary, teen fantasy romance, and YA Greek mythology, and range from stand alone books to series. For Tellulah, teen romance is the most passionate, intense, and awkward there is – a comedy goldmine. Plus smart, mouthy, teen girls rock.
