Summer Lovin’: We Go Together

Todays Participation topic is…
Graduation Day!

List your accomplishments, big and small.
Did you make some new friends? Call them out.
Then hop around and congratulate the other participants on their successes.

This has been the most fun I’ve had on the internet. Everyone and everything was just so lovely and wonderful. All the book bloggers were friendly and amazing. You guys surpassed my page views twice over! Thank you. I love you guys. This last day is simply bittersweet. I had so much fun and it’s so sad that it has to end. But I hope to see you all on the next one~

So my accomplishments: I was able to read only 3 books even though I aimed for 4. I finished and reviewed Star Crossed by Alisha Watts, Unpredictable by Eileen Cook, and Poison by Bridget Zinn. It was just too fun to stay in front of the laptop! I was able to start 2 books though – Remember Me? by Sophie Kinsella and Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, which are both wonderful books! I just need to find the time to finish them. 🙂

Summer Lovin’ Read-a-thon: Tears on my Pillow

Tears on my pillow: Share a quote from your current read or tell us about a book that really pulled on your heart strings. What was it about that book/quote that made you cry?

Okay, I don’t really like crying because I end up looking like a tomato. Seriously. So I barely let my tears fall. Whenever there are some really dramatic things happening in a book, my chest hurts and I feel for them, but I try to avoid crying. Although, I really like books that give me tears of joy – when characters do something so sweet or so touching. So I chose Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green and David Levithan, which is one of my favorites because it’s really good. I was so touched by the ending, and I couldn’t help the tears. I had to hide myself from my brothers because they might have teased me. Haha!

Title: Will Grayson, Will Grayson
Authors: John Green and David Levithan
Published: April 6, 2010
Publisher: Dutton Children’s
ISBN13: 9780525421580

One cold night, in a most unlikely corner of Chicago, two teens—both named Will Grayson—are about to cross paths. As their worlds collide and intertwine, the Will Graysons find their lives going in new and unexpected directions, building toward romantic turns-of-heart and the epic production of history’s most fabulous high school musical.

Why I cried: So this is about Tiny, Will1’s gay best friend. I love him so much because he’s just a huge bundle of joy. He’s not your typical gay guy. He’s really huge and he plays football, and he’s very flamboyant so he attracts a lot of attention. He just seems so awesome. But deep down inside, he feels so alone and unappreciated, yet he cares so much for other people. Other people take him for granted because he shows of this exuberant self and they forget that he’s a person too that needs others to care for him. He does everything for all these people who don’t even give anything back. But in the end, Will2 (ex-boyfriend) plots something for him. After Tiny’s self-written musical about himself, Will2 shouts from the audience, “I’m Will Grayson, and I appreciate you Tiny Cooper.” Not only that, Will2 called Will Graysons from all over the area beforehand to ask them to do the same thing, even if they didn’t know him. A couple of them actually did, and then everyone else (the non-Will Graysons) join in, and tell Tiny how much they appreciate him. It was just so sweet and so heart-warming. I love this book. Sometimes we forget about these people who care for us and just take them for granted. It’s nice to let them know that we appreciate them. I surely want to feel that.

Summer Lovin’ Read-a-thon: Book Spine Poetry

This is my first time doing this so I doubt my skills a little. This challenge left my book closet (and my mind) a little disheveled in my search for books to use. Anyway, I made two. Always good to have a back up. 😛 The first one was the one I thought a lot about. The second one was a random discovery while staring at the spines. It just so happens they were sticking close together. Haha. Anyway, here ya go~

The Fault in Our Stars

Reckless through the ever night
Pandemonium Across the Universe
So Silver Bright
Banished under the never sky
Let the sky fall

Wicked delirium
The madness underneath
Unforsaken requiem

Summer Lovin’: Look at me, I’m Sandra Dee

Featuring: Favorite Fictional Females

This one was difficult for me because I don’t really have favorites. There are those that I tend to really like, but as far as favorites go, it’s always a tough choice. So I took the easy way out and just chose a book on my re-read list (because I love the book and must read it again). I chose Poison by Bridget Zinn, which is a really GOOD book. And for my creative output, I thought of just doing a short bio for her. I cannot really give an actress for her because I’m not that updated with film or television. I don’t know a lot of celebrities. The cover makes a good picture anyway. Although she reminds me of Liv Tyler – a younger version maybe. A lot of details were omitted to avoid spoilers~ Anyway, here goes…

Summer Lovin’ Read-a-thon: Page 99 Test

This is the Page 99 Test

  • If you have never done this before, the object of the game is to pick a book you have not yet read, turn to page 99 and read that page. Then you give a synopsis of that page and tell us if, based only on that page, would you want to read this book?
  • Please remember to give a synopsis ONLY, no spoilers and no plagarism.
  • So get to it! Read that page and let us know what you think? Did it contain any really good teasers? Want to finish the book to find out what was going on?

I chose Sophie Kinsella’s Remember Me? as it is one of reading goals for this read-a-thon. This will be my last book for the week because I want to end in a good note, and I just love Sophie Kinsella. So anyway, on to page 99~

In this page, Lexi seems to have found out that she lives in a really, really nice home, and that she is married to someone named Eric Gardiner. She is ecstatic about the place that she twirled around in glee, which caused her to break some expensive-looking ornament. She gets worried over this, but her thoughts are interrupted by an alert message on a giant screen.

That’s where the page ends! So I don’t know what the message is either. I am very much intrigued. I can already see Sophie Kinsella’s entertaining writing in this page, and I am really excited to read the whole book!

Title: Remember Me?
Author: Sophie Kinsella
ISBN13: 9780440242406
Published: February 26, 2008
Publisher: Dell

Synopsis: When twenty-eight-year-old Lexi Smart wakes up in a London hospital, she’s in for a big surprise. Her teeth are perfect. Her body is toned. Her handbag is Vuitton. Having survived a car accident—in a Mercedes no less—Lexi has lost a big chunk of her memory, three years to be exact, and she’s about to find out just how much things have changed. Somehow Lexi went from a twenty-five-year-old working girl to a corporate big shot with a sleek new loft, a personal assistant, a carb-free diet, and a set of glamorous new friends. And who is this gorgeous husband—who also happens to be a multimillionaire? With her mind still stuck three years in reverse, Lexi greets this brave new world determined to be the person she…well, seems to be. That is, until an adorably disheveled architect drops the biggest bombshell of all. Suddenly Lexi is scrambling to catch her balance. Her new life, it turns out, comes complete with secrets, schemes, and intrigue. How on earth did all this happen? Will she ever remember? And what will happen when she does?

Summer Lovin’ Read-a-thon: Cover Re-do

So for today’s challenge post, we need to do a cover re-do of any book that we choose. Now, this is definitely a challenge! I lack art skills, I think. But I shall try anyway. No harm in trying. So I chose Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins. The current cover is nice, but I hate that they changed it for the last book! I already have Anna and the French Kiss as well as Lola and the Boy Next Door with the old cover, and then they changed it. So I shall attempt to change it back, which might be a little difficult without reading the book. I shall just assume details through the Goodreads page.

So here are the old covers for reference:

6936382 9961796

And here is the new cover along with my re-do:

From the glittering streets of Manhattan to the moonlit rooftops of Paris, falling in love is easy for hopeless dreamer Isla and introspective artist Josh. But as they begin their senior year in France, Isla and Josh are quickly forced to confront the heartbreaking reality that happily-ever-afters aren’t always forever.

I used Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone because they fit the couple description. Tall and lanky guy and a little redhead. Emma Stone isn’t that little, but I think it works? They’re a cute couple. It was hard looking for pictures though, becuase Emma Stone is mostly blonde. I had to make do. The first picture looks like a movie poster. I like the second picture because the colors are close to the original covers. I didn’t really edit it much because I don’t know how. I also didn’t know what colors or type to use for the font. I only achieved the author font, I think. Any suggestions to make it better?

What do you think? x_x
